Why Choose Studio Dental of Chisholm Trail for Veneers?

The Benefits of Veneers

Veneers are one of the most popular cosmetic dentistry treatments around – and for good reason! Veneers offer a wide range of benefits, such as:

Understanding the Veneers Process

As mentioned above, veneer treatment is a straightforward cosmetic dentistry procedure that can typically be completed in just two trips to our conveniently located dental office in Fort Worth.

During your first visit, Dr. Patel will carefully examine your teeth and gums to make sure they are healthy enough for veneer treatment. Once the go-ahead is given, Dr. Patel will remove a tiny layer of enamel – less than a millimeter – from your teeth to make room for the veneers. He will then take impressions of your teeth to send to the dental lab and give you temporary veneers to wear for just a few weeks.

Once your custom veneers have been crafted by the dental lab, you will return to our office for the placement procedure. Dr. Patel will remove your temporary veneers, clean your teeth, and then secure your new permanent veneers in place using bonding cement and a special curing light.

After the placement procedure is complete, you can walk out of our doors and start showing off your beautiful new smile!

Are Veneers Permanent?

Veneers aren’t technically permanent because they will eventually need to be replaced. However, they are considered to be irreversible. To ensure that veneers fit properly on the teeth, small amounts of protective enamel need to be removed, and it will not grow back. For this reason, teeth that have been prepared in this way will always need to be covered with either veneers or crowns.

Will I Still Be Able to Drink Coffee with Veneers?

Veneers that are made from porcelain are stain-resistant. This is because porcelain is a nonporous material, so the particles in dark-colored foods and beverages have a harder time slipping beneath the surface. Ultimately, you should be able to drink your morning cup of coffee without worrying too much about staining your veneers. Just keep in mind that veneers are not stain-proof, so excessive consumption of coffee could still have a negative impact. Moderation is key!

Do Veneers Give You a Lisp?

Some people have trouble pronouncing certain words when they first get veneers, resulting in a temporary lisp. This is partially due to muscle memory, as the tongue isn’t used to accounting for the presence of veneers when you talk. The tiny difference in thickness affects the way the tongue moves. The tongue will eventually adjust on its own, but practicing the pronunciation of certain sounds can help to speed this along.

How Many Veneers Will I Need?

The goal of veneers is for all of your visible teeth to match, so you’ll receive an appropriate number of veneers to accomplish this goal. Some patients opt for a single veneer to cover one pesky tooth while others get anywhere from 6 to 12 for more complete smile makeover. During your initial consultation with us, we’ll discuss the goals you have for your smile so we can determine what the magic number is for you.

What Happens to the Teeth Under Veneers?

Only a minimal amount of enamel will need to be removed from your teeth in order to put the veneers in place, with the dentin and nerve tissue within left completely intact. The bonding material used to adhere the veneers in place is also completely safe, which means that you don’t have to worry about the health of your teeth once the veneers are in place.

Your teeth can still suffer from tooth decay and gum disease, which means that it’s necessary to keep up with your dental hygiene if you want to keep your teeth in good shape.

Can Veneers Be Used for Bite Corrections?

Veneers only change the shape of the teeth themselves, doing nothing to address the position of the jaw. This being the case, they’re limited in their ability to correct issues with your bite. If you have a mild open bite, veneers may be able to adjust the teeth so that they meet—however, this is essentially the extent of what they’re capable of in this regard.

It may be a better idea to undergo orthodontic intervention if you’re interested in addressing your bite issues, then getting veneers when this is complete.

How Long Do Veneers Last?

How long you can expect your veneers to last depends on many different factors. However, nearly all of them last over a decade, with a vast majority sticking around for 20 years before needing to be replaced.

Veneers typically need to be replaced due to fractures and chips, which makes it incredibly important to avoid hard foods that can damage them. You would also need to replace your veneers if the tooth beneath it is infected by a cavity, so you can make yours last longer by sticking to a dental hygiene routine.

Do Veneers Feel Like Real Teeth?

Our veneers are made from high quality porcelain tailored specifically to you and designed to match the color of your natural enamel. They’ll also be crafted based on meticulous impressions taken of your smile so that they can fit neatly onto your teeth without jutting out.

For all of these reasons, you can expect your veneers to feel just like they’re your real teeth. While it may take you some time to get used to them, they should feel perfectly natural after a week or so.

Can you whiten veneers?

No, veneers cannot be whitened. Unlike natural tooth enamel, which is porous and can absorb the whitening ingredients that remove stains, the artificial material used to create veneers is not. This means any attempt to use a bleaching gel on these teeth will be unsuccessful.

If you notice that your veneers look dull or less vibrant than before, the only solution is to have them replaced. It’s also possible to whiten your smile before receiving your veneers so that everything appears uniform and balanced once in place.

How are veneers different from dental crowns?

While veneers in Fort Worth and dental crowns are made from artificial materials (porcelain or ceramic), their function differs. Veneers only cover the front-facing surfaces of teeth, hiding imperfections and creating a beautiful, cohesive, and radiant smile. A dental crown covers the entire tooth and is primarily used for restorative purposes.

Dental crowns can be crafted with aesthetics in mind, but they are used to protect damaged or decayed teeth that cannot adequately support themselves anymore.

Can I use my dental insurance to pay for veneers?

It’s highly unlikely that your dental insurance will cover any portion of veneer treatment. This is because it is primarily a cosmetic form of care. Unless they are deemed medically necessary for any reason (avoiding decay when preparing for replacement veneers), you will need to consider alternative ways to pay for treatment. Our team at Studio Dental of Chisholm Trail is here to help find ways to make paying for care more financially feasible, so we encourage you to reach out if you need assistance.

Do veneers change your face?

As you grow older, facial elasticity and muscle tone decrease, which means you may begin to look older. Instead of resorting to a facelift that requires weeks of recovery, veneers can be just enough to support a more supple appearance – one that accentuates your cheekbones and creates a more attractive shape. All of this will be discussed during your consultation with your cosmetic dentist.
